ABSTRACT

Objective To review the performance of the IFCC enzyme reference methods in China laboratories and to evaluate the competence of enzyme reference measurement in China. Methods The Intemational Federation of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine(IFCC)enzyme reference methods were performed in 8 China laboratories.Reference procedures were developed by each laboratory and the performances were evaluated. The Clinical and Laboratory Stadards Institute(CLSI)EP-5 protocol was used for the evaluation of precision and certified reference materials(CRMS)were used for the verification of trueness.Seven of the 8 laboratories participated in the 2006 IFCC external quality assessment program for reference laboratories(RELA)for the assessment of the measurement performance. Results Within-run CVs of less than 1.5%and between-run CVs of less than 2%were achieved bv all the China laboratories. Results on CRMs by some of the laboratories agreed with the certified value within the stated uncertainty. In the 2006 RELA,the averages and the interlaboratory CVs of the China laboratories were similar to those of international laboratories. Conclusion A preliminary enzyme reference method laboratory network has been established in China.

ABSTRACT

Objective To evaluate the sensitivity and specificity of a rapid one-step test for the detection of Helicobacter pylori antigen in stool samples. Methods 13C-urea breath test (13C-UBT) and rapid urease being taken as “gold standard”, Helicobacter pylori stool antigen (HpSA) was detected with Atlas rapid one-step test among patients with syndromes in upper alimentary tract. These patients were divided into two groups. One was pretreatment group that included 62 cases and the other one was post-treatment group with 42 cases. Results In pretreat_ment group, there were 24 Hp positive cases and 38 negative ones according to the golden standard, 27 positive and 35 negative according to one-step HpSA assay, and the sensitivity and specificity was 100% and 92% respectively; In post-treatment group, 15 positive and 27 negative according to the golden standard, 19 positive and 23 negative according to one-step HpSA assay, and the sensitivity and specificity 93%and 81% respectively; the total sensitivity and specificity was 97% and 88% respectively. Conclusions HpSA rapid one-step test has good sensitivity and specificity in diagnosis of Hp infection and judgment of Hp eradication.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the effects of long-term,low-dose hormone replacement therapy(HRT) on serum level of creactive protein(CRP) and homocysteine(Hcy) in postmenopausal women. Methods A total of 141 postmenopausal women were selected from medical staff of the Peking Union Medical College Hospital.Of these,63 subjects have been treated with low-dose sex hormone for over 5 years(HRT group),78 subjects have never received hormone replacement therapy as control group. The serum levels of CRP and Hcy in two groups were evaluated. Results The serum level of estradiol(E_2) in HRT group was significant higher than that in control group(median,inter-quartile range;33.8 ng/L,30.9 vs 21.3 ng/L,33.2)(P0.05).There was no correlation between the serum level of CRP,Hcy and the plasma levels of E_2 and FSH respectively. Conclusion Long-term and low-dose HRT does not increase the serum level of CRP and Hcy in postmenopausal women.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To observe the effects of Qingluotongbi granule(QLT) on the changes of cytokines in adjuvant induced arthritis(AIA) model of rats. Methods:The AIA model of rats were induced by complete Freunds adjuvant. Various doses of QLT were given by gavage once daily for 21 days.Results:QLT〔7.2,14.4 g/(kg?d).ig〕markedly decreased the levels of IL-1 and TNF-? in AIA rats. Conclusion:QLT has modulating effects on the alternations of cytokines of AIA model.

ABSTRACT

Objective To explore the relationship between plasma cholesterol ester transfer protein(CETP) and TaqIB gene polymorphism and type 2 diabetes mellitus(DM).Methods The genotypes of the first intron of CETP TaqIB gene in 102 patients with type 2 DM and 103 healthy controls were analyzed by polymerase chain reaction-restricted fragment length polymorphism(PCR-RFLP),and plasma CETP were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA).The association of gene polymorphism with plasma lipids, lipoproteins and apolipoproteins was also analyzed. Results No significant differences in both of the alleles frequencies and genotypes in type 2 DM were noted in comparison with controls. There were no relationships between CETP TaqIB gene polymorphism and gender, family history, smoking and body mass index(BMI).No significant differences of plasma lipid levels were observed in healthy controls with different genotypes. However, significant differences in level of HDL-C or apoAI among different CETP TaqIB genotype groups were observed, and significant correlation between low high-density lipoproteinemia and B1 allele in type 2 DM was observed. Conclusion CETP TaqIB gene polymorphisms associated with lipid metabolism, which may be an important genetic factor for abnormal lipid metabolism in type 2 DM.
